Genre Writing: Science Fiction and Fantasy

A common piece of advice to new authors is to identify and write in their favorite (or a single) genre. This series will give authors resources to help them improve their skills in their selected genre. I read a lot of science fiction and fantasy, so that is the first article in the series. Of course, many of the tips and suggestions could apply to any genre, so please use what is appropriate for your writing.
