Risk be Damned: A Kurtherian Gambit Series (Trials and Tribulations Book 1), Natalie Grey, Michael Anderle – Review

This is the first book in yet another series set in the Kurtherian Gambit universe. It takes place between books 13 and 14, while Bethany Anne is finalizing her preparations to leave earth and trying to let earth take care of itself. Unfortunately, earth as a whole is having some difficulties in that regard. A would-be king experiments on entire packs of Weres. Stephen and Jennifer try to stop him. Justice is meted out … just not in this volume.

And once again, this expansion of the Kurtherian Gambit is very enjoyable and satisfying. Grey’s characters and their relationships are true to Anderle’s original vision, as is her humor. The swearing is less prevalent, but still creative. I especially liked how both Stephen and Jennifer interacted and worked together. Bringing a centuries-old vampire fully into the modern world, have him fall in love with a Were, and have them fight together against a ruthless maniac is a challenging concept that Grey pulls off wonderfully.

As with several other series in this universe, this is not a stand-alone book, and the action will continue in the next book. Which should be out soon. I hope so, because I want to know what happens next!
